Meet your neighbor

As the owner of a small communications and advertising business, I know the value of listening and problem solving. I have an advertising communications degree from The University of Florida and worked for over 10 years at national advertising agencies creating brand campaigns and TV commercials for Fortune 500 companies. Throughout my career, I specialized in travel and tourism. Working on the Alaska tourism, New Hampshire tourism and Northwest Airlines campaigns, I learned how to sell a place and destinations, and I will bring that experience to our growing city. I think it is important for our City of Madison to keep its authenticity. The unique flavor of downtown Madison and sense of community should resonate throughout our entire city.

I grew up in Winter Park, in Central Florida. I met my husband Dr. Bryce Devine in Anchorage, Alaska while I was working the Alaska tourism account. He was a U.S. Army officer stationed at Fort Richardson. After his military service, Bryce earned a  Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from University of Florida. After he graduated, we moved to Vicksburg, MS for a job with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and then onto Madison for his current job. We have been married for almost 20 years. Our journeys together have taken us across the United States, first for my work and then for his. We have been in Madison for 5 1/2 years. We have two children in the Madison City school system. They have been involved in all kinds of sports teams and activities throughout Madison and we have had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful neighbors here. We enjoy getting outside canoeing and hiking as a family with our dogs. And were members of the Muscle Shoals Sailing Club for a time when we had an occasional weekend free.

I have always tried to keep a balance between work and family. That means flexibility. I’ve been a stay at home mom, worked part-time jobs throughout Madison at small businesses and a large retail chain. I have also been a substitute teacher at all of my children's schools. It is a much needed resource for our community and I would encourage others to do the same. I was the Programs Chair for 2 years for the North Alabama Advertising Federation.

My parents were public school teachers and valued education. I know how hard they worked and how important it was for us to be in good schools growing up. My family has spent summers at the Lake Junaluska Methodist Assembly in NC for over 65 years and it’s where my husband and I were married. My grandparents were both WWII veterans. My grandfather was a Corporate Realtor in Florida and I held a real estate license for a short time while living in Minnesota.
